To the north of the seaside village of Pirou Plage was the village fantome. A large number of houses as well as a hotel-restaurant were constructed on the dunes, in just six months, apparently in expectation of impending planning permission. That permission was refused. Many local artisans were made bankrupt and the promoters seem to have disappeared.
The site rested unoccupied for years. Some fittings were recovered leaving the houses as shells. The buildings had fallen victim to the graffiti artists. The majority of the buildings were demolished at the end of 2016.

Ugly as the site is also home to some interesting plants such as the pyramidal orchid and the rarer lizard orchid.
